Asian Street Energy, Reimagined
F&B | Bengaluru · 2024
Streats was conceptualised as a food truck-led dining brand developed within the hospitality environment, a context where food and beverage formats are often shaped by operational familiarity and established service structures. The initial brief raised a larger strategic question. What role should a food truck play within a hotel ecosystem, and how could it offer something meaningfully different from the existing restaurant formats around it? The objective eventually shifted beyond simply creating a mobile dining unit. The larger intention became building a format that could operate with greater spontaneity, experimentation, and personality while still remaining commercially viable within a hospitality setting.
The conceptual direction for Streats was built around reimagining the food truck as a testing ground for more expressive and contemporary food culture. Instead of positioning it as a casual extension of existing hotel dining formats, the brand was developed to intentionally move away from some of the predictability often associated with institutional food and beverage systems. The cuisine direction was approached through a neo-Asian lens, drawing inspiration from five distinct culinary geographies across Korea, Indonesia, China, Thailand, and Japan. Rather than attempting authenticity in a traditional sense, the focus was on reinterpretation, accessibility, and high-energy flavour profiles that felt better suited to the pace and informality of street-led dining culture.
The food and beverage programme deliberately avoided relying on the expected structure of mainstream Pan-Asian dining. Instead of centring the menu around generic stir fries and standard dim sum offerings, the culinary direction explored formats more closely associated with contemporary street food culture and casual social dining. The menu included Asian-inspired burgers and sandwiches, barbecue trays, corn dogs, smaller shareable formats. The cocktail programme followed a similarly restrained approach. Rather than an extensive beverage list, the signature menu featured a concise selection of cocktails, with each drink drawing inspiration from one of the chosen destinations. This created a tighter conceptual relationship between the food, beverage, and larger identity system without overwhelming the format itself.
The visual identity system for Streats was developed around the idea of convergence across multiple Asian influences rather than a singular regional aesthetic. Individual colour references and pattern systems were derived from each of the five selected countries, allowing the brand to carry varied visual rhythms while still functioning cohesively as one identity. A key part of the design language emerged through the development of patterned scallop-like forms that were arranged into larger mosaic compositions. These mosaics became a recurring structural element across the truck, branding applications, and supporting visual assets. The approach allowed the identity to feel layered, energetic, and modular while avoiding overly literal cultural symbolism.
